Boxing Day Bounce – The Busiest Festive Period EVER for the Property Market

Prospective home movers took to the internet in record numbers over the festive period to browse property listings.

In what was a crazy year for the housing marketing in 2021, at Boxall Brown & Jones we have seen numerous enquiries from buyers and tenants. Even Rightmove reported that enquiries increased by 23% between Boxing Day and New Year, compared to the same period in 2020.

The ‘Boxing Day Bounce’ is an annual tradition for estate agents, as potential movers use their down time between the Christmas Period and New Year to kick-start their property hunt.

Having friends and family over to visit during the festive period can make many individuals realise issues such as lack of space, which was a huge prompt for those browsing for new homes.

Looking back at our figures, we saw a 68.8% increase of new visitors on our website, making it one of our busiest years to date!

Prospective buyers jumped into action again on 30 December, with nearly all users looking into buying a property with us.

Chris Birds, Partner at Boxall Brown & Jones said “despite the high levels of market activity we saw throughout 2021, we have recorded continued high demand during the period between Boxing Day and the New Year, driven by the continued desire to move properties.

“In addition, the number of properties going to market between the festive period and New Year, signals a new group of sellers coming to market who have made it their New Year’s resolution to move in 2022.”

Anthony Lomas, Partner at Boxall Brown & Jones added, “this group of individuals may have held back during 2021 due to the frantic market but are now seeing it as their time to take action, and are now using this time to take advantage of the eager prospective buyers searching for their next home during the holidays.”

“We recommend if you are looking for your next home, act sooner rather than later. With high buyer demand, you need to act fast to ensure that you beat any competition! We have also noticed several people getting in touch to value their homes, meaning that there will be more choice to come soon.”

“As mentioned before, due to the incredibly high buyer demand, we strongly recommend you get in touch with a local estate agents like us, to book a viewing as soon as you see the property online, as that could be the one for you and you would not want to miss out!”
