So, You’ve Brought a Property… Now What?

Have you just brought a property? At Boxall Brown & Jones, we understand that buying a property can be just as exciting as it is stressful. It can be hard to know what steps to take once you have the keys to your new home. So, we have decided to make things a little easier for you. Keep reading to find out what you should do once you move into your new place.

Introduce yourself to neighbors

It may seem like a simple step, but make sure to introduce yourself to your neighbours as quickly as possible. Your neighbours may take it upon themselves to introduce themselves to you but, if they don’t, make the first step instead. They may not want to intrude, especially if you have only just arrived. Invite them over for a chat, or even a coffee. Neighbours can give handy tips, especially if you are new to the area.

Change your addresses

Again, it seems like an obvious step, but during the stress of a house move, the little things are easy to forget. Make sure to change your address on all accounts, and to share your new address with friends and family. This way, you can avoid as much confusion and communication trouble as possible.

Set up utilities

Before you move into your new house, make sure to set up utilities which cover gas, water, internet, and electricity. This will mean that your house will be ready to use from the get-go. Oh, and remember to turn the fridge on when you arrive.

Change the locks and set up security

An important safety measure is ensuring that you change the locks and set up any required security systems throughout your home. You want to feel safe in your home, so make sure you don’t forget this step.

Make sure you have established sleeping arrangements and eating arrangements

When you are moving into a new property, make sure that you have established sleeping and eating arrangements. Although you have just moved in, the house may not be renovated, or the furniture may not have arrived yet. So, you need to make alternative arrangements instead. Are you going to camp out on the sofa for a few nights, or stay with friends for a couple of nights? It is best to prearrange these things so there is less to worry about later down the line. Likewise, your fridge may not be set up yet, so think about whether you are going to order food in or cook elsewhere.

So, now you have all the steps you need to take, good luck moving into your new home! If you are looking for a home in the Derbyshire area, take a look at our current properties on the market.
