This year marks a significant milestone for Boxall Brown & Jones as Partner Chris Birds celebrates 25 years with the firm. Having joined in 2001, Chris has played a central role in the growth and success of the business. Here, he reflects on his journey, the changes he has witnessed across the Derby property market, and the people who have made the journey so memorable.
“Last month marked 25 years since I joined Boxall Brown & Jones, and it’s been an incredible journey. Boxall Brown & Jones itself has a proud history, opening in 1989, and over the decades it has grown into a busy and well-respected firm of Chartered Valuation Surveyors and Estate Agents serving Derby, Belper and the surrounding areas.
When I started in February 2001, the Derby property market looked very different. A terraced house in the city centre could be bought for less than the cost of a new kitchen today 😂. Prices were modest, spreadsheets were simpler, and the idea of running a large, well-respected property business seemed a long way away.
I became a partner in 2005, and over the last 25 years it’s been a privilege to help shape and grow the business, into the remarkable operation it has become today.
Over those 25 years, I’ve seen the market boom, wobble and regenerate. Technology and regulations have changed, COVID and recessions have been and gone, but some things remain constant: experience, local knowledge and strong relationships are the cornerstone of what we do.
I’m grateful for the colleagues who bring expertise and dedication to everything we do. I love the fact that several of them have been with me for over 20 years, which says a great deal about the culture and loyalty within the team, and I extend my thanks to all our clients who have trusted us with some of the biggest decisions of their lives.
Reflecting on 25 years, I’m proud of the journey so far and excited for the future. The property industry continues to evolve, and we remain committed to adapting, improving and delivering the highest standards of service for our clients.
