Resources to Help Landlords

As an experienced letting agent, we understand that there is a lot to think about. From laws and regulations to property inspections, it can be hard to keep track of every responsibility required to manage a rental property.

Here are the best resources to guide you through the responsibilities of a landlord:

NRLA (National Residential Landlords Association)

The National Residential Landlords Association is the UK’s largest membership organisation for private residential landlords, supporting and representing over 95,000 members.

The NRLA membership connects you with a wide range of resources – including access to business information, training, professional expertise, a leading publication and much more.

Take a look at their resources by clicking here.

Propertymark

Propertymark is the leading membership body for property agents. While this may not appear suitable to landlords, the information and advice provided to agents is invaluable. So, if you are looking for an agent to manage your property, check to see if they are a member to ensure the advice you receive is relevant and compliant.

At Boxall Brown & Jones, we are members of Propertymark and ensure all our team is trained up and familiar with the latest laws and legislation.

TDS (Tenancy Deposit Scheme)

All landlords are required to protect any deposits taken for a tenancy. TDS provide Government-approved tenancy protection to help you meet your legal requirements.

If you are looking to secure a deposit and need advice on protecting, requesting or raising a dispute about a deposit, you can find all the information on their website.

The Government Website

The Government website has some great information about being a landlord. From right to rent checks to evictions, their website has some informative guides to help you get started on your landlord journey.

Landlord Advice UK

Landlord Advice specialises in property law. They have over 6 legal advice lines specifically for UK landlords. You can speak to one of their lawyers directly for free legal advice.

They have also been featured on Channel 5 and are recommended by Barclays Bank. You can find out more about their services by clicking here.

RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)

The RICS are a globally recognised and highly regarded organisation who promote and enforce the highest professional standards in the development and management of land, real estate, construction and infrastructure.

By being RICS accredited, it demonstrates an agents strong reputation for excellence and tailored client care. At Boxall Brown & Jones, we have several accredited agents and are regulated by the RICS, meaning that all our landlords will receive up-to-date, expert advice.

Local Council websites (Derby City Council)

Your local council should have lots of information for landlords. This includes council tax and change in circumstances.

Whether you are paying council tax or accessing information about housing benefits, it’s a great place to find out all the necessary information you need to know in your area, plus reporting changes that require notifying the council.
